How to take measure

Measuring body dimensions accurately is important for tailoring clothing. Here are step-by-step instructions for measuring each specified area.

Tools Needed:

Measuring tape (flexible and non-stretchable)

Measuring tape (flexible and non-stretchable)

Mirror (optional, to ensure proper positioning)

A helper (optional, but can improve accuracy)

Measuring body FRONT

1 Chest Circumference

Stand straight with arms relaxed at your sides. Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest,  across the nipples. Ensure the tape is parallel to the ground and not too tight or too loose. Take the measurement at the end of a normal exhalation.

2 Waist Circumference

Stand straight and find the narrowest part of your waist, usually above your belly button and below your ribcage. Wrap the measuring tape around your waist at this point. Ensure the tape is level all the way around and not tight. Take the measurement at the end of a normal exhalation

3 Hip Circumference

Stand with feet together. Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your hips and via buttocks. Ensure the tape is level and straight all the way around. Measure without pulling the tape tight.

4 Neck Circumference

Stand or sit with your head in a natural position. Wrap the measuring tape around the base of your neck, just below your larynx. Ensure the tape is level and not too tight.

5 Wrist Circumference

Wrap the measuring tape around your wrist just above the bony part. Ensure the tape is snug but not tight.

6 Front Length

Stand straight with arms relaxed at your sides.Measure from the top of your shoulder (near the neck), through the breast, down to your waist

7 Back Length

Stand straight with arms relaxed at your sides. Measure from the top of your shoulder (near the neck) down to your waist.

8 Sleeve Length

Stand with your arm slightly bent. Measure from the center of the from the shoulder bone  across your shoulder, and down to your wrist (or desired sleeve end point). Make sure the arm is relaxed and slightly bent during the measurement.

9 Overall Length

Ask someone to help you so you don’t bend over Stand straight with arms relaxed at your sides. Measure from the top of your shoulder (near the neck) down to your desired overall length (e.g., to the ankle or floor if measuring for a full-length garment)

10 Length from Waist to Knee

Stand straight with feet slightly apart. Measure from the natural waistline (where you measured your waist circumference) down to your knee. Ensure the measuring tape is straight and not slanted.

11 Length from waist to ankles

Ask someone to help you so you don’t bend over. Measure while standing straight, from the designated waist line to the ankle of the foot.

Tips for Accurate Measurements

Take measurements while wearing form-fitting or minimal clothing. Use a mirror or a helper to ensure the tape measure stays level and straight. Record measurements in a notebook or digital device for future reference. Following these steps, you should be able to obtain accurate body measurements and remember that the dimensions obtained are necessary for proper execution of the order
